Tadashi Shoji continues the trend of ruffle embellishments, but adds his own special twist by turning the ruffles into rosette embellishments that cascade from the waist of the gown to the hem. There are also elements of Madame Gres’ influence in the collection, evidenced in dramatic ruching and a tiered Grecian effect – in fact, Tadashi Shoji’s Greek column dresses establish a direct lineage from Madame Gres.
Compared with some of his other collections in the past, this venture is more youthfully romantic and whimsical, which should extend his consumer base beyond red carpet looks, and include the woman who wants to be styled in a manner that expresses her penchant for breezy elegance and romantic abandon.
