In the old Eurostar terminal at Waterloo station, one of the coolest venues of LFW so far, mega brand Topshop showed their slightly more fashion forward collection, Unique. Despite the unusually long walk from the door to the runway (100 editors and notables climbing ramps in heels was certainly a sight to see), the high-budget show did not disappoint.
With stylist Katie Grand, recently back from another 70s revival in New York, the label showed a veritable explosion of disco flare with a hint of hippie. A stellar cast included Coco Rocha, Behati Prinsloo, Jourdan Dunn, and Lindsey Wixson, and the front row was as sparkling as ever.
What makes Unique so enjoyable is that not only do they know exactly who their audience is, but they also understand that they are still part of a High Street store. Picking up on the now completely ubiquitous 70s trend, the print-heavy collection featured flowing maxi dresses, super wide-legged palazzo pants, and the occasional mini dress.
Flower-inspired Pegasus prints reigned supreme in a palette of washed out burgundy, burnt orange, and black, making for pieces that will be easily integrated into next season’s wardrobe. We can be sure that while many of these pieces will not be put into production, the cult favorite store will be bringing us all back to the 70s come spring.
