Karl Lagerfeld debuted a strong collection for Fendi Spring 2011 ready-to-wear, even though he may not have taken many risks when it came to experimentation with new cuts, silhouettes, or garment details.
Aside from Silvia Venturini Fendi, the label’s head of accessories, and Kaiser Karl himself, hardly anyone who set foot on the runway wore black. The Fendi collection was full of wearable pieces. Most of the details were inconspicuously woven into the fabric.
This season, color made the most ardent statement. The saturated shades of red, blue, orange, and teal tied into show notes that read, “Fendi is the burning summer of passion.” Considering many of the loose-fitting, almost peasant-like silhouettes, you couldn’t help but feel this was a romantic, light, and airy collection. Perhaps Lagerfeld was going for an approachable, understated type of passion.
More geometric and structured pieces complemented off-the-shoulder breezy looks. The line’s varied color palette will also give its customers lots of options for spring.
The styling of the collection was spot-on. Models walked the runway with loose, stick-straight hair and popping lips that came in vibrant shades of Barbie pink and juicy orange.
The most memorable pieces were the accessories, such as gorgeous, multi-colored belts, shoes, and handbags. Hard-framed, square handbags in a multitude of contrasting textures and skins added the perfect, sophisticated, and lady-like touch to this season’s Fendi collection. And, the new “Peek-a-Boo” cult bag was certainly on that runway somewhere.
