Being an up-and-coming model in today’s competitive fashion world is tough, but the pressure is even more intense when one is always being compared to Kate Moss.
Growing up as a preacher’s daughter in the African country of Namibia, Behati Prinsloo came from modest beginnings. In 2005, at the age of sixteen, she was discovered in a grocery store in Cape Town, South Africa, by model scout Sarah Doukas. Doukas was most famous for the discovery of Kate Moss in 1988. With her small brown eyes and sly smile, Behati instantly drew comparisons with the waifish Brit supermodel.
During the Spring/Summer 2006 campaigns, Behati walked in over a dozen shows, including Milan exclusives for Prada and Miu Miu. At the same time, she appeared in an editorial for British Vogue. However, it wasn’t until the following spring in which she was booked for simultaneous ad campaigns at Marc Jacobs and H&M that Behati’s face became a well known staple in the fashion industry.
