I’m not even joking about this: Miss Piggy is alright. First of all, she has a real backstory. Her creator, Frank Oz, shared her biography in a 1976 New York Times interview: “She grew up in a small town in Iowa; her father died when she was young, and her mother wasn’t that nice to her. She had to enter beauty contests to survive, as many single women do. She has a lot of vulnerability which she has to hide, because of her need to be a superstar.” Can’t you already feel your empathy juices flowing?
Second of all, she has some seriously sassy beauty advice. She’s reminded us to “never purchase beauty products in a hardware store.” That’s something none of us can afford to forget. In another moment of clarity and insight she said: “It’s a good idea to apply an all-over facial pack once or twice a month, but I never, never use mud. (Frankly, it brings up unpleasant memories.)” That’s more than a mere beauty tip, it’s a life lesson: Miss Piggy had to come from somewhere, but look how far she’s come.
