This collection might as well have been called ‘a fashion editor’s dream.’ Joseph Altuzarra has many fans within the industry and he certainly catered for them this season. The CFDA award winner was under a lot of pressure this season and few would say he didn’t live up to it. He demonstrated his tailoring skills with exceptional flare and the collection was incredibly well played. There were separates for day, easy looks for night, and looks in between that would cater to everyone from a 25-year-old fashion girl to a 45-year-old CEO.
Contributing to one of the week’s burgeoning trends, Altuzarra showed a play on workwear classics with railroad stripes and engineers jackets throughout. One of the most common problems with Spring collections is the lack of appropriate outerwear. Many women prefer fall because of the layering potential but they’re hard pressed to find the same in the warmer months. Now that the weather is more unpredictable than ever, outerwear is becoming a more important element of spring and summer wardrobes. Altuzarra managed to show a half-dozen different ways to wear a blazer whilst still thinking of the needs of the woman. Taking inspiration from Japanese structure and the editors around him, he built vents into the body of most of the jackets so arms wouldn’t be constricted by sleeves. This blazer/cape hybrid looks finicky on many, but with the relaxed structure of the pieces shown here, it’s easy to see everyone in the style. The collection followed seamlessly from his resort showing and looking at the designer’s past few collections, the growth is undeniable. Looks like we’ll be seeing many good things to come from Joseph Altuzarra.
