The prints at Peter Som’s Fall 2012 presentation looked almost geometric from afar, but in close-ups one notices that the sheer blouse is created out of repeating pattern of grayscale cats, resulting in a truly grown-up way to wear kitties. Kenzo made a fierce statement with sweaters featuring a graphic tiger print that is edgy, urban and really roars. At Masimo Rebecchi the look was preppy, with scarf-print tunics displaying a timeless equestrian motif.

Celebs have been quick to show their wild side and embrace the animal motif in looks that range from cute and cuddly to red-carpet-ready. Kate Bosworth wore a Burberry look straight off the runway at last fall’s fashion week, the cheery embroidered owl on her sweater barely peeking above the high waist on her peplum skirt. The refined details like the ladylike tweed of her pencil skirt and the velvet bow belt helped to balance the whimsicality of the graphic. Singer Marina Diamandis went girly at the Attitude Awards in a sugar-coated Mary Katrantzou cocktail dress with a dreamy stallion print on the bust. A model stopped outside the tents at NYFW to show off her street style, wearing a playful green cat sweater.

Kerry Washington took animal prints to the next level of glamour at the London premiere of Django Unchained. The bubble skirt of her white Giles gown was awash with a barely-there (and practically life-sized) horse graphic. Taylor Swift’s street style in London worked a more dressed-down animal print vibe—one of the polka dots on her French Connection top had a sweet cat face. She played up the cutesie and just-cartoonish-enough effect with a strand of pearls and wayfarers.
