Inspiration comes from all sorts of sights, sounds and experiences – fashion designers say that all the time. Apparently, Isaac Mizrahi took his from the insect world with a spring collection previewed Monday named “Swarm” and dresses in the spirit of dragonflies, beetles, even cockroaches.

Many of the silhouettes had corset tops, a New York Fashion Week trend, and many of the white outfits were worn with Day-Glo unitards underneath. The most classic Mizrahi look was the beekeeper’s dress, with a tight bustier top and a pouffy skirt with alternating tiers of fabric and netting.

But then there were the shapeless, unfortunate dresses named pupas.
