Obliterate Breakouts
The combination of sun, oily skin and sweat clogs pores, which leads to unwanted breakouts. "Get a good cleansing, anti-acne treatment to remedy this," recommends Dr. Jeannette Graf.

Visit the Dermatologist
"If the at-home treatment doesn't work, visit your dermatologist for a stronger in-office treatment or a light peel like the Salicylic Acid Peel by Glytone for Enerpeel," suggests Dr. Graf.

Treat Sunburns
Tsk-tsk. You should know better than this, but we know accidents happen. "An active burn should be treated with soothing ingredients, such as cooling aloe and over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream," says Dr. Graf. "Severe blistering sunburns should be treated by a dermatologist."

Repair Dry Skin
"Sunburns from the past should be treated using gentle skincare to try to repair the moisture barrier," says Dr. Graf. "Old sunburns can leave skin discolored and blotchy, so take quick, tepid showers with gentle body wash and apply a rich moisturizer within three minutes after showering."

Prevent Further Sun Damage
As fall begins, keep sunscreen on at all times. This includes face and hands, which many of us forget about. "Diminish sun exposure as much as possible and wear broad spectrum sunscreen on your face and hands year-round," advises Dr. Graf.

Combat Hyperpigmentation
"There are a number of approaches you can take to treat hyperpigmentation," says Annet King, director of global education at Dermalogica. "To start, wear a minimum SPF of 30 each and EVERY day, no matter the forecast. When choosing topical treatments, look for ingredients like rice extract and avoid kojic acid and hydroquinone, which both have a huge potential for sensitization. Hydroquinone, in addition to being banned in most other countries, can cause skin to turn bluish or even white (loss of pigment) if overused, and is linked to contact dermatitis."
