Artist Egon Schiele’s expressionistic painting kicked off inspiration for the collection, and is the muse you can thank for the voluminous, twisted, sharp, soft and asymmetrical shapes which were strong throughout the showcase. Think flared pants which are more office-chic than 70s flower child and frilled criss-cross draping on layered shirting, both exuding a certain sophisticated and clean-cut femininity.

Textures were at an all-time high with a dynamic mix of monochromatic and soft-watermelon brocade, rusty suedes, divine silk wool, shimmering and white appliquéd lace, and metallic fringing. As for shapely coats, well, Ellery most definitely has that area sorted. We’re talking modern slouchy and stiffly architectural cover-ups in everything from burgundy to black, white and rust-orange, all of which will bring a little life to the colder of days.

The range cleverly combined the past with the present and the future, and it’s really no wonder the label’s designer, Kym Ellery is continuously asked back to Paris to showcase.
