Michael Lo Sordo debuted his namesake label’s Resort 2015 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia yesterday, April 14. We caught up with the esteemed designer straight after his show to celebrate the range, plus talk about his career highlights, working with fashion bloggers and what’s next for the label.
Although we would’ve thought that his show today, which championed beautiful billowing silhouettes on a soft, dreamy colour palette, was a huge career highlight for Michael, the designer tells us that the greatest thing is just being able to do exactly what he does. “It’s not just one particular moment,” he explains. “I have this opportunity and I have this platform where I can do what I love and show it to the people that I love, and for people to wear it and just be beautiful.”
Some unofficial Michael Lo Sordo ambassadors include popular fashion bloggers Nicole Warne and Margaret Zhang, with Michael saying he’s known them for years and loves creating magic with them. “It’s just about good people, and it’s just about creating amazing content,” he tells theFashionSpot. “They shoot beautifully,” he adds. “It’s a collaboration.”
He tells us that he would love to see his garments on the likes of Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett as well, staying true to his Aussie roots while also hoping to see global recognition of his designs. “A lot of our focus is on the internationals at the moment,” he explains, which is the reason he chose to debut resort wear this MBFWA.
Michael will he heading to Paris in June to show his resort collection, so we think the international success is well on its way. We definitely hope so, because this guy deserves it as much as anyone.
