So long, thongs! The most uncomfortable underwear on the planet is getting bumped out of favor for an unlikely competitor — granny panties. According to The New York Times, sales of thongs dropped 7 percent over the last year. On the flip side, sales of high-waisted briefs, boy shorts and classic briefs collectively increased 17 percent. Why? The Times pinpoints a number of sources, including the increase of plus-size models and fashion brands in the industry, a growing number of indie brands helmed by female entrepreneurs and the popular trend of high-waisted trousers on the runway. But most of all, millennials are stocking their underwear drawers with full-bottomed bloomers simply for comfort. And that’s music to our ears.
