Maybe it was in response to the seemingly never-ending winter or perhaps it was the ethereal fashions that came down the runways. Whatever the reason, a fairy tale vibe pervades many of the early summer magazine covers.
In keeping with the warm-weather vibe, beaches and lush, grassy backdrops are prominent, as are bare-leg and bare-shoulder looks. The best part about the June 2017 covers, however, is the surprising cover stars — Missy Elliott, Lana Del Rey, Oribe Canales (along with Doutzen Kroes) and Nicolas Ghesquière with his celebrity muses. Of-the-moment It girls Paris Jackson and Zoe Kravitz also made appearances as well as Karlie Kloss, Karolina Kurkova and Gisele Bündchen.
Check them out and more in our roundup of the best and worst June 2017 fashion magazine covers.
All the June 2017 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated
-
Vogue China
If you’re going to put Karlie Kloss in a questionable outfit, at least give the girl some blush to liven her up!
-
Vogue Germany
We have to hand it to Saskia de Brauw for making two tired trends — feathers and the wet hair look — feel fresh.
-
Vogue Ukraine
It’s great to see master hairstylist Oribe Canales get a cover alongside the always stunning Doutzen Kroes, posing for a unique behind-the-scenes shot.
-
Allure
Aside from the bird, this is the perfect cover for a beauty magazine.
-
Teen Vogue
A little aggressive for a teen magazine, no?
-
Harper's Bazaar
Love or hate the headpiece (or the omnipresence of Gigi Hadid), there’s no denying how mesmerizing the beauty look is here.
-
Vogue Australia
Did anyone else have a hard time recognizing Naomi Watts under all that heavy makeup?
-
Vogue Paris
Those legs! That hair! Gisele Bündchen is killing it in this poolside shot.
-
Vogue Russia
Putting aside the fact that this looks like it was shot against a green screen, shouldn't Natasha Poly be smiling if she's skipping along the water?
-
Vogue Netherlands
A simple, beautiful, June-appropriate shot.
-
Vogue UK
An awkward pose and tragic styling.
-
Vogue
Exactly what beautiful fashion should feel like — a fairy tale. Brownie points for the over-the-top flower crown.
-
Vogue Japan
Sure, Louis Vuitton undoubtedly scored this by being a major advertiser, but it’s always nice to see an incredibly talented designer and his muses.
-
Harper's Bazaar UK
An awkward fairy tale with a Town & Country flair (Justine Picardie is the editor-in-chief of both U.K. Bazaar and U.K. Town & Country).
-
InStyle
We see a future on-camera superhero vixen in Karlie Kloss' future.
-
Glamour
It’s hard to decide what’s more distracting — the granny panties or the teenybopper font.
-
ELLE UK
Lana Del Rey looking perfectly dreamy.
-
ELLE
The Pharrell hat is back...and it's kind of awesome. It's nice to see such a refreshing cover look and star.
-
Marie Claire
Who thought Gal Gadot covering that beautiful Chanel dress with her hand was a good idea? Did someone forget that Marie Claire is a fashion magazine?
-
W Korea
We may not want to emulate this look (fur and all), but the colors make for welcome summer fashion inspiration.
-
ELLE Italy
Clashing prints done right.
-
Harper's Bazaar China
This stunning dress was made to be on a cover! So much so that we'll forgive Karolina Kurkova for looking as though she's wearing a wig...
