By the time the fashion crowd descends on Milan, there’s always a real sense of the season coming to fruition. This season, Missoni celebrated a monumental 65 years in the business, 90s supermodels like Georgina Grenville made a surprise appearance at Salvatore Ferragamo and Shalom Harlow closed out the Versace show.
Miuccia Prada is officially back in full form with Prada ‘s latest collection, Jeremy Scott is slowly becoming a bona fide forum favorite after his scribble-inspired Moschino collection (despite accusations of copying another designer’s designs ) and the Max Mara show was sophistication personified, once again. Yet the sound of applause slowly turned into the sound of crickets as Dolce & Gabbana insisted on the same old “Viva Italia” aesthetic, Alberta Ferretti shamelessly knocked off Isabel Marant and we strongly suggest Donatella Versace not shy away from the original, sexy and straightforward Versace DNA ever again.
As the industry’s elite now flock to Paris, here are the hits and misses of the Milan Fashion Week Spring 2019 season, according to our brutally honest forum members.

MFW Hits & Misses
HIT: Jil Sander
"Easily their best effort since they started. Lots of interesting pieces here however, the whole thing still feels very random and caretaker-ish ." [ogepma ] "It was quite a nice collection. Looks done with ease, feels comfy. The details still hold grips even the structure of most designs could've turned flat. Easy on the eyes, and many possibilities to work with individual items I can imagine. Pretty good." [Pricciao ] "The only collection worth something in Milan (thus far). I would wear everything!" [maxlinden ]See all the looks from the Jil Sander collection .
MISS: Marni
"What a mess." [Nomar ] "My eyes hurt." [liberty33r1b ] "Horrible! He clearly doesn’t know anything about a woman’s body. Not that bad but now that the original Marni family is back with Plan C, there’s no need to care for this." [Lola701 ]See all the looks from the Marni collection .
HIT: Moschino
"Oh yes, I love it! All the designers out there take themselves so seriously, Moschino is always a breath of fresh air. It's not easy to make a collection which is fun without looking ridiculous but this is eccentric, colourful and detailed, you can see there is a lot of work behind it." [apple ] "I love it, it's just so fun to look at compared to all the other shows that bore you to death." [marsnoop2 ] "I loved this show, there was so much that could make you dream!" [June ]See all the looks from the Moschino collection .
MISS: Philipp Plein
"There's no need for such trash to be this expanded! Dunno why Plein just doesn't show in Cannes or Berlin and be done with it. Also, awful cast. But then it befits this brand." [Benn98 ] "Christophe Decarnin kinda made it impossible to deliver a good MJ collection after his Balmain Spring 2009 show. At this point, it’s pointless to try. This is tacky, trashy and it’s not fun..." [Lola701 ] "Poor Michael Jackson did not deserve this." [StoneSkipper ]See all the looks from the Philipp Plein collection .
HIT: Prada
"A return to form, very desirable collection with really, really good accessories." [Norden ] "Her best collection in quite a few seasons. I guess it's because it's a lot less heavy and much more basic. No styling tricks." [anlabe32 ] "This collection is fantastic. It's extreme in its simplicity, yet it's still interesting. It's almost like a set of uniforms, Prada uniforms. It's chic! The nylon pieces that were commissioned are so cool, especially the dress with the buckle in the front. Ugh! So good! The looks with the prints were perfect from head to toe. What's so great about this is the ease and wearability. These are clothes that can easily be added to a wardrobe. That's what Prada is all about and that's why her older collections have stood the test of time. She nailed it!" [GivenchyHomme ]See all the looks from the Prada collection .
MISS: Versace
"This is really bad. It looks like she revisited the archives of the worst Versace era (early 2000s) and tried to make it look trendy for the Instagram crowd." [LustforFashion ] "Cringeworthy is the best word to describe this collection. It was like a vomit of prints that went just too wild yet there was no energy. I get that they wanted to do some clashing of patterns, but it doesn't work at all. To me it's the worst collection of this season." [perhydrol ] "Oh what a mess! This collection has one idea that was spread as thin as it could possibly go. You can't rely on prints to compensate for poor design. It's not at all authentic to Versace. Everything feels very forced and unnatural. The beginning really looked like a Prada/Marni mash-up. Ugly chic is not in the Versace DNA." [GivenchyHomme ]See all the looks from the Versace collection .
HIT: Sportmax
"OMG, so gorgeous!! What a showstopping collection from start to finish. Found myself going back more than three times. Everything is just so perfectly executed, the effortlessness of it all. And I'm getting actual summer vibes." [Benn98 ] "That was exactly what I was expecting and it's so good! Last season was better, since I tend to like their fall collections for some reason. The first look is bomb, one of my favorites of the week already." [ghostwriter10549 ]See all the looks from the Sportmax collection .
MISS: Tod's
"The casting is as cheap and generic as the clothes paraded throughout this collection." [Benn98 ] "Too casual..." [liberty33r1b ] "I like the pink suit on Gigi and the pink shirtdress on Vittoria. The rest is just...there." [Lola701 ]See all the looks from the Tod's collection .
HIT: Fendi
"Head and shoulders above everyone else, as usual." [Wintergreen ] "Fendi is the most important thing happening in Milan now IMO. I'm still obsessed with the fall collection and I will be for a while. This collection is almost ridiculous because it's too good! Again, very market-wise and fashion at the same time. Fendi's logo is my favorite right now." [ghostwriter10549 ] "Fendi really is what Prada used to be. The brand is able to demonstrate what subversive styling should be. The amount of bags, especially fanny packs, may seem excessive, but here I feel like they became one with the clothes, it's as if they're part of a coat, jacket, or dress' embellishment." [Ken Doll Jenner ]See all the looks from the Fendi collection .
MISS: Byblos
"Disgusting and vile! It all belongs in a rubbish bin. Absolutely nothing redeeming here." [Benn98 ] "From the 'garbage collector look' at the beginning to simply trashy from the middle onward...pure waste of fabrics! Hope the whole collection gets properly recycled at least." [jeanclaude ]See all the looks from the Byblos collection .
HIT: Max Mara
"Exceptionally chic! I really appreciate how this brand really stays true to their identity but doesn't put forth the same thing season after season!" [ToniOrtega ] "Flawless. I like when they go with the 'Italian bourgeois' approach because, besides that the result is always awesome, they never lose a bit of their identity in the process. Great job." [ghostwriter10549 ] "I appreciate everything about this, it looks so expensive compared to some of these luxury brands." [marsnoop2 ]See all the looks from the Max Mara collection .
MISS: Blumarine
"This is tacky, almost trashy. Very, very bad and the athleisure part is like an afterthought. Plus, she is coming like 10 years later with that trend." [Lola701 ] "Is this what the Blumarine woman is wearing? This is a big misstep and I'm not sure why they decided to go this route this season. Tacky in the worst way and completely forgettable." [reese06 ]See all the looks from the Blumarine collection .
HIT: N°21
"I wanna walk around in that pink mohair sweater, it's cool and elegant at once. A number of lovely pieces; always a good one in Milan..." [Not Plain Jane ] "Beautiful, very RTW and quite sexy." [Lola701 ] "It's nice and generic. Nothing groundbreaking but looks beautiful, simple, easy and very ready-to-wear, so I like it." [guimon ]See all the looks from the N°21 collection .
MISS: Alberta Ferretti
"Half of it looks like a bad Isabel Marant collection." [Scotty ] "This looks beyond tacky, what happened??" [liberty33r1b ] "Weird color palette and the styling is quite messy." [ghostwriter10549 ]See all the looks from the Alberta Ferretti collection .
HIT: Salvatore Ferragamo
"I love the colour palette, and it's nice to see that the silhouettes aren't overwhelmed or distorted by unnecessary accessories and over the top styling. At the very least the collection is fluid and highly wearable, and the cast of models is flawless." [magsaddict ] "The clothes are 100% luxury, and the styling helps give a twist of fashion. The footwear is to die for and the cast is fabulous." [ghostwriter10549 ]See all the looks from the Salvatore Ferragamo collection .
MISS: Dolce & Gabbana
"SH*T PARADE." [szonline ] "After looking at this, I want for us to be less harsh to the latest Versace collection. They clearly don’t know how to celebrate fuller bodies. So, you have a plus-size model and the best thing you could put her in is a tight ruched dress with big prints?" [Lola701 ] "What's new? OK still the same crap over a decade." [MDNA ]See all the looks from the Dolce & Gabbana collection .
