A: I have been a make-up artist for 25 years now, and have worked with every product (as well as skin type) so I have learned what works and what doesn’t. I also created my site www.beautytruth.com years ago, exposing all the chemicals in the beauty business, so I am very well versed on what chemicals are in our beauty products, and the ramifications they can have long term. My line is not only clean, but it has the best ingredients that most normal companies would not even consider using because of cost (and quality). I not only use raw food grade ingredients in my line, I also have a thorough knowledge of their origins and manufacturing process. My products are concentrated, containing no water, so they last longer then most beauty products. They also deliver a beautiful, natural, glow, as well as heal the skin at the same time. Over the long term they are very anti-ageing, and don’t contain all the synthetic vitamins and derivatives that all the other natural/organic lines are adding.
Q: How do you come up with the colors for your lip and eye products?
A: I come up with colors that enhance a woman’s beauty, not just the color flavor of the month. Usually the trends only look good on photographed models, and they do not cater to age/skin color differences. I choose colors that I know will cross those barriers and look both beautiful and modern.
Q: What do you think are the biggest mistakes women make when choosing their cosmetic products?
A: I feel the biggest mistake is not reading ingredient labels, and believing everything written on the front of a product, or all those blatant lies in advertising and marketing. Having the word ‘Organic’ on the label means NOTHING . Big companies write organic on a label, and in reality they usually only contain one tiny drop of an organic ingredient. Thanks to the new law, that is no longer allowed, but it will still take years to weed out all of these green washers. The new thing is to add green pictures, such as a herb on a product, or advertise saying that a product contains herbals and even vegetables. But in reality, they are the same chemical-laden products with a few herbal additives that can’t even live in all those chemicals. It’s another marketing maneuver to trick the unsuspecting public.
Q: What has been your most memorable celebrity client work experience?
A: I have to admit it was probably Jessica Lange. I did her make-up twice years ago in Berlin during the Berlin film festival, and she was so down to earth and naturally beautiful…she requested that her make-up made a natural statement.
Q: For those who only have a few minutes to get their look together, do you have any quick make-up tips?
A: Honestly, my products are the quickest user-friendly products ever, and no matter what your expertise level, you can never go wrong with application. It always looks natural, yet inviting, and continually gets compliments due to its sheerness and healthy glow that it delivers.
Q: What are the products women should splurge on? Which can they skimp on?
A: I don’t believe women need to splurge on products at all. That is one of the biggest misconceptions in the beauty business, which makes the most money from over-priced dreams that never come true. There are simple pure oils that will do more for your skin than any beauty product ever will. One is my Raw Coconut Cream, which sells on my website for $15, and has never seen chemicals or heat. It is the best make-up remover and cleanser EVER. It has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, and is a natural antioxidant that kills bacteria on the skin. It is great for any skin type….even including acne prone skin. If you are going to splurge on beauty, drink pure water and eat organic foods. I am also a big fan of saunas, as they detox the system and the pores, and make the skin look amazing.
