Given the current state of print, we can’t fault Emmanuelle Alt for playing it safe when it comes to Vogue Paris’ cover stars. We’ve already had two Rianne van Rompaey covers this year and just last month Gisele Bündchen was welcomed back for the 11th time. Now Kate Moss, another firm favorite, is back for August 2019 marking her 21st cover appearance for the French fashion bible (less than 12 months after her last appearance). Photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and styled by Alt herself, Moss serves us 80s realness in the vibrant, Andy Warhol-esque cover shot.
But the cover was a total flop. “Horrendous. She looks CGI here…and don’t get me started with that eye makeup,” critiqued Style Savvy the moment the cover dropped.
“Predictable. It’s a typical Kate Moss cover with some special effects,” ranted TommysBaby.

“This is not what I expected for August and needless to say I’m not pleasantly surprised. I’m not even sure what’s worse here: the red filter, the eye makeup, the dripping gloss or the Vogue masthead? I mean, those red little stars and that blue is horrendous,” called out Valentine27.
Also far from impressed was Miss Dalloway: “Oh for crying out loud! WTF is this? How on earth is this appealing to anyone? I mean Kate Moss fanatics aside, why would ANY woman see this and want to pick up the issue?”
“Kate for Vogue Paris is already tedious, but with a result like this…there is no way to defend Alt!” said DK92.
“This cover is so bad, Kate looks terrible and the effects ruin the entire image,” proclaimed an underwhelmed burbuja8910.
Forum member dfl-001 shared the same sentiments: “This is shameful! If you’re going to use Kate, celebrate her for who she is.”
