The New York Fashion Week Fall 2020 collections meant business. There were tons of blazers topping off skirts of all different lengths. Whether you like your hem hitting just below the knee or a more modest midi length, Fall 2020 has you (and your legs) covered. FYI: There were a few cropped blazer and miniskirt sightings, in case you want to introduce a little structure to your weekends.

Florals for spring are pretty routine, just ask Miranda Priestly. But florals for fall are a tad more intriguing, especially when they involve moodier bouquets. A couple of brands did delight with brighter arrangements, but most took a more goth turn. Which means you can legit wear these blooms straight through winter.

Leopard Makes a Comeback
Forget zebra, tiger and snake, leopard is the only animal print that counts, at least according to New York. Coats and blazers were the most common way to incorporate the fierce pattern, but it also popped up on pants and simply on sleeves. Since it’s considered a neutral, you can wear leopard with literally anything and the New York designers are full of styling ideas.

Still Mad for Plaid
Plaid will always be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe so we weren’t surprised to see the pattern all over the New York runways. Many designers opted to double up, either in the form of matching sets or conflicting patterns. If grunge is your MO, there were some 90s-era options, but plaid is apparently going back to its preppy roots for fall.

The Golden Hour
If you’re looking to make an impression, gold is the way to go. Perhaps that’s why so many designers used the flashy shade in their collections. Some only offered up one shining example, others dedicated a decent part of their Fall 2020 lines to the metallic leader. Obviously, there’s no way to tone down the lustrous hue so these golden goodies are never meant to see daylight.

We love the aubergine Victorian dress Zimmermann sent down the runway, the violet puff-sleeve top at Ulla Johnson and the strong-shouldered suit in an iridescent fabric at Christopher John Rogers.
