Every year every major fashion glossy pulls out the big guns for their September issues. This year, amid the global health crisis, Vogue Japan tapped Kaia Gerber, British Vogue dropped an issue dedicated to activism and Harper’s Bazaar secured Rihanna. Over at ELLE, Nina Garcia managed to land none other than Cardi B who makes her ELLE debut for September 2020. The American rapper wears a dazzling crystal Area headpiece and a glittering Versace dress for the bold cover shot captured by Steven Klein.
How did the cover fare on our forums? “I like it! Even with the black backdrop,” declared jorgepalomo the moment the cover dropped.
“She really isn’t photogenic at all, but it’s a strong cover! I like it,” admitted aracic.
“It’s an impactful cover, but I think that once again, they have failed to do Cardi justice,” commented Lola701.

“Steven Klein for U.S. ELLE? That’s a big get. Too bad the results are rather lackluster. Her eyes are not strong enough and it reminds me too much of Adriana Lima’s Vogue Paris cover,” mikel pointed out.
“A beautiful woman with some Grace Jones styling would have made this a fantastic cover…instead, it’s like something from one of those series of RuPaul’s Drag Race where RuPaul is too busy to be a judge,” added tigerrouge.
“This is painful to look at. The styling is insanely terrible,” disapproved MON.
Miss Dalloway shared the same sentiment: “What an awful cover!”
