You must’ve been living under a rock if you didn’t already know that Angelica Cheung departed Vogue China following a remarkable 16-year tenure. Now Margaret Zhang takes over. For her first cover, Zhang took to the streets to find a fresh face to embody Vogue‘s global new beginnings theme. For the striking September 2021 cover image, Jinghan Fan is captured before the majestic mountains of Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park by photographer Hailun Ma.
“Loving the color palette, sublime!” heralded amby.
“The cover is of course stunning, hauntingly beautiful,” said Benn98.

“Quite a strong debut cover. I love that they put an unknown model on the most important issue of the year,” appreciated THD96.
“I didn’t expect much from Margaret Zhang, but I am able to admit just how spectacular this has truly turned out! The cover is absolutely sublime and the background is captivating with those mountains and the coloring from the sunrise,” raved vogue28.
While BlueRuin simply described the cover as “stunning.”
But not everyone shared the same sentiment. “The background looks almost painted like one of those Chinese watercolor paintings. I honestly can’t tell if I like this or not,” confessed marsnoop2.
“I can’t pinpoint exactly why, but I don’t like this at all,” shared KINGofVERSAILLES.
