Seeing models on the covers of mainstream American fashion magazines is rare. So whenever a model does happen to front our favorite titles, it’s certainly cause for celebration. Now ELLE opts to close out 2021 with not one but two festive covers featuring model-of-the-moment Kaia Gerber. Making her debut as an ELLE cover star for December 2021/January 2022, the American model, actress and current face of Celine sports a feathered and rhinestone Saint Laurent bodysuit for cover one (below) and a red velvet Gucci suit for cover two (after the jump) both picked by Alex White for the images shot by Nathaniel Goldberg.
Unfortunately, the covers didn’t fare well with our forum members. “She has no fire in her eyes in the first cover,” declared mikel.
“Models can look blank, but not empty,” said Horizontina.
“Kaia is totally expressionless,” echoed clo. “So different from her mother, who could really emote…”

Lucien112 was also majorly underwhelmed: “I’m consistently more thrown by how young she looks than her ineffective ‘modeling.’ There’s just nothing aspirational about her on covers.”
“This is what happens when you don’t have to work for it,” commented tigerrouge.
“She really lost her spark as quickly as she first got it… She had a great runway debut and her early work was gorgeous, but that all went to hell the moment she first chopped her hair. This is definitely not her best work…” remarked aracic.
“She looks like she’s playing dress-up in her mom’s clothes!” GERGIN chimed in.
“She lacks the sex appeal required to succeed in these types of shoots,” voiced FashionMuseDior.
