It’s no secret that I loved Oscar de la Renta’s youthful turn for spring. What I loved even more was the fresh-faced, big haired beauty look (above). A flawless face was enhanced with plenty of highlighter and a warm taupe shadow. The models’ hair was curled and then brushed out, resulting in a fluffy mane of boho-luxe hair.
This ethereal beauty look from Jason Wu (above right) is perfect for spring. The bright orange lip paired with a glitter highlighter and mascara made the models look youthful yet polished. The deconstructed fascinators littered throughout the messy updos were a great surprise. Fascinators are often seen as old fashioned and take attention away from the face and body, but these worked with the beauty look instead of against it.

Richard Chai Love’s beauty look was very sporadic. All of the models had clean faces and lightly contoured eyes but every few looks we would be hit with a burst of color such as this overdrawn violet hued lip. Orange and pink eye shadows were seen, as was a cobalt lipstick, and it was a nice reminder that sometimes all you need is one burst of color to pick up your look. This violet shade (above) was seen at a number of shows this season so it’s sure to be a trend come spring.
Donna Karan’s spring beauty was decidedly fall looking (above right). A brown/red lipstick was paired with full brows and heavily contoured cheeks. I’m not sure how spring friendly this look is but I loved the soft definition in the brow and warm, surprising colored lipstick. Big brows are definitely back, so toss your tweezers and get grooming.

There were plenty of designers this season that showed no-makeup makeup looks but this one at Doo.Ri was most successful. This look is being hailed as the ‘return of pretty’ in a time when beauty looks have become as conceptual as the clothes. With a subtle glow, the models looked fresh, clean, and spring appropriate. This look is perfect for daytime and can be transformed for night with just a swipe of lipstick.
Ponytails were seen left and right this NYFW with every incarnation from slick and low to messy and high accounted for. This slick fishtail/pony hybrid at Marchesa (above right) takes the cake for the most interesting. It’s not an easy look to recreate but it’s a head turner.
