Why we like it: There’s no doubt that Diane has been the princess of this year’s Canne Film Festival. Her fashion and beauty choices have been without a doubt the most interesting and on-trend of all the stars on the carpet. This look is especially smart because she doesn’t overdo it on the makeup and her messy, yet controlled, updo works perfectly with her statement dress.
How to get it at home: To get Diane’s understated makeup, start with a matte or satin finish foundation, such as Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Foundation $42. This will give you an even base for you to build upon. Fill in your brows using a powder product, such as Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo $22, and brush them through with a spooly brush to break up the product and give a more natural finish. To get her neutral eye, try working with a palette, such as the Urban Decay Naked 2 $50, which allows for you to play around and find your ideal neutral eye. Finish off your eyes with a lengthening mascara, such as Eyeko’s Skinny Brush Mascara $19. You can leave the look as is, or use a sheer lip color, such as YSL’s Volupte Sheer Candy $30.
Wearing an updo with a statement-making dress can be hard but Diane manages to pull it off by taking a classic rolled look and making it look messed and worn. To get this look at home, blow dry, or air dry, your hair using a thickening product, such as Bumble and bumble’s Texture Hair (Un) Dressing Creme $26, to add more volume. If your hair is naturally wavy or curly, you have an advantage with this look but if not, try using a curling iron on random sections to get a loose, wavy look. Working slowly, and from the top down, roll your hair inwards and pin as you go. This look works best on women with mid-length hair, as they can roll the entire length at the back, but if your hair is longer, you could alter the look by twisting it into a loose bun at the nape or a textured ponytail. Don’t make it too perfect and don’t be afraid to mess it up. This is an imperfect look that would be great for day or night.
