A style once reserved for 80s rock stars and their groupies is making a comeback in the most elegant way possible: the punk rock look. A number of undeniably gorgeous celebs have gotten on board the punk rock train, mostly with their hair, keeping the look fresh and feminine.
But turning your hair into a rocker-chic ‘do isn’t easy, especially for those of us who’ve been flat-ironing for years. So how do women like Rihanna, Demi Lovato, and Miley (yes, we love!) do it? We asked the pros how to make the look work, so regardless of how far you want to go, you can mix your hair up punk rock-style.

Long Hair
Love your long hair, but want to try the trend? No problem. Last week, Biggest Loser winner, Danni Allen rocked a cool ‘do on her big night. Or, you could follow Gwen Stefani's lead, who's been wearing this style for quite some time. Here, Hollywood hairstylist John McCormick, tells us how to get the look:
1.Start by blow-drying with a heat-protecting spray and paddle brush, keeping the hair smooth and straight, then section off the top of your hair.
2. Next, flatiron the rest of your hair, using a shine spray and tuck the side sections back. Then secure with pins in back.
3. Tease the top section. Go wild and big. Spray with hairspray to hold.
4. Smooth the top section, create volume at the crown and smooth to the back, covering the pins and blending into the back of your hair.

Short Hair
A pompadour is a great way to try a punk rock look, just ask modern-day rocker, Pink. Celebrity hairstylist, Marcia Hamilton, has helped Pink achieve the ultimate rocker look for numerous magazine covers and offers these tips on getting her signature pompadour:
1. For this look, start with dirty hair. If your hair is really clean, add a bit ?of a mattifying powder. Then, section out the crown area and use a large barrel curling iron to create volume,? pinning each curl formed out of the way.?
2. Take a nickel-sized glob of pomade and rub hands together and apply to sides? and back. Then, brush sides back. If hair is too long, secure with bobby pins.
3. Take pins out of the crown, tease and run fingers through the curls. Spay with? White Sands Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray ?for maximum hold and volume.

Semi-Buzzed Look
You don’t have to buzz your whole head to look rock 'n' roll; you can start with parts and see how you feel. Raphael Reboh, stylist and owner of Femme Coiffure in Miami, suggests cutting a small section of your hair short, like Riri, or buzzing it if you dare.
“Get as close to the ear as possible— a location of the head that is demure. That way, you can style the hair to conceal the buzzed cut (for professional reasons),” Reboh says. But cut your hair underneath, not on the surface, he warns. “That way, you can wear a low ponytail may be able to conceal it too, if you don't want to wear the hair loose.”

Colored Hair
Feeling bold and ready to make a drastic change? Johnny Stuntz, celebrity stylist credit with styling Kelly Osbourne’s hair, recommends using color to punk it up. This is definitely one of the most affordable ways to change your look.
“Kelly [Osbourne] loves keeping her hair glamorous rock 'n' roll. Here we put in a bang piece and matched it to Kelly's light dusty violet color,” Johnny says. “Heavy bangs are a very rock look. And the bang piece is another way to make a quick change for that night out.”
