Dressed like a geeky gothic monk in long black drapery, L’Oréal Professionnel lead hair stylist Joseph DiMaggio cut an impressive figure backstage at Timo Weiland‘s Spring 2014 show, held at Milk Studios on Tuesday. DiMaggio matched his magnetic appearance with a different kind of wizardry: to create Weiland’s hair look – a sleek, sculpted take on beach waves — the stylist mixed his cocktail using two L’Oréal Professionnel products, True Grip texturizing powder and Volumetry root spray (a new offering). DiMaggio told us that combining two made it easier to work the powder fully into the hair’s length, creating a textured, voluminous effect.
Next, hair was twisted into a low ponytail and heated with a blowdryer before being wrapped in a bun to cool. After giving hair time to cool and set, the DiMaggio loosened the bun and sprayed it with dry shampoo.
After creating a strict center part and smoothing models’ hair behind their ears, the stylists turned to an old standby — yes, hairspray — to create the stiff, editorial finish.
