POC — Pop of Color for Your Face
Adding a pop of color has become second nature when it comes to clothing and accessories, but Philadelphia-based makeup artist and stylist Linda J. Marcy urges you to consider the concept for your beauty routine during the holiday season.
“A fun way to add a pop of color to your LBD this holiday season is with makeup. Pick your best feature and go BOLD,” she says. “Choose a bright color for your lips—red is perfect for the holidays and it’s classic, but you can choose a magenta or any bright to stay on trend.” Marcy’s suggestion to get the look starts with a clear pencil to define and prevent the color from bleeding, followed by a punchy lipstick topped with clear gloss. If a bold lip is part of your usual repertoire and you want something more impactful, try a metallic finish, like Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Siren ($28).
But Marcy says you don’t have to stick to lips when you think of statement color. Add dimension to your face with a pop of color on your cheeks and beyond, blending well around your temple area. Use your fingers to apply a liquid highlighter at the top of your cheekbones. Bring drama to your eyes with a navy, charcoal or green. Start by lining your eyes with black gel liner on top (pencil or shadow on bottom) then add the color with a brush to the crease and use some fake lashes to finish off the look. By far, my favorite gel eyeliner is Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($23) and it comes in lots of colors.
