Who: Taylor Swift
Where: The Winter Whites Gala at Kensington Palace
Why we like it: Events such as this seldom result in great beauty looks but we love Taylor’s quirky take on a retro classic. By opting for a shaded eye and pink lip, she softened what would be a retro look, making it girly and modern.
How to get it at home: Start with a moisturizing foundation, such as By Terry’s Terrybly Densliss ($115), which is a serum-based formula that enhances the skin’s natural textures whilst providing medium coverage. With a very light hand, apply a matte blush, such as Illamasqua’s Velvet Blusher in Peaked ($26), to add a bit of definition back into the cheeks.
The key to making retro eye makeup looks work is framing. Ensure your brows are clean and defined using a product, such as Givenchy’s Eyebrow Show Powdery Eyebrow Pencil ($24), but remember to use the attached brush to distribute the product evenly throughout your brows. Get Taylor’s defined shaded eye with a set, such as Kevyn Aucoin’s Eye Shadow Duo in 207 Gold Lame/Smoky Brown ($42), blending the dark shade well into the crease and adding highlights under the brow bone and in the inner corner with the lighter. Blend a small amount of your crease color under the lower lash line and define the upper with Eyeko’s Liquid Metal Eyeliner in Black Onyx ($26).
Finish off your eyes with a clean finish mascara, such as Bobbi Brown’s No Smudge Mascara ($25), and complete your look with a swipe of Dior’s Diorific Lipstick in Minuit ($36).
