There was a lot of look going on for the Ruffian Fall 2014 fashion show. MAC Makeup Artist James Kaliardos and TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin were kind enough to break it down backstage.
“It’s kind of like an Estee Lauder 1975 look. It’s a full-on makeup look which looks actually very beautiful,” Kaliardos said. Many looks this season are about playing up one makeup element and keeping the rest of the face subtle, but this look breaks that mold. It’s a dark eye, a bold lip, contoured cheeks and a flawless complexion.
One of the most exciting products was a new AW14 lip palette featuring the crushed cranberry used on models for the show.
CATWALK by TIGI was also unveiling a new product to be released later this year, Your Highness Root Boost Spray. Irwin described it as a mousse and blow-dry lotion combined in a hairspray.
“It just gives the hair elasticity so you can stretch it out [during a blowout] but it’s light and the great thing about it is it isn’t sticky,” he said.
“What we’ve done this season is we’ve come up with something a little more opulent. The girl is more uptown, more high end, more beautiful, and there’s a bit more volume to the hair,” he said.
The inspiration came from the juxtaposition of opulence and street, aristocratic and pop, and earnest and outrageous. Irwin created an “expensive” look with a slight curl, volume at the crown and a blown-back hairline.
