Who: Kate Upton
Where: The MTV Movie Awards
Why we like it: While it’s all well and good to run around Coachella with a flower headband and crochet dress like a well-dressed flower child, sometimes we tire of the fresh, flushed natural look. During spring it’s easy to get caught up with pretty pastels and natural beauty, which we admit is a great look, but we love Kate Upton for saying to hell with spring and going full glam goth.
How to get it at home: This look may appear heavy but the key to balancing a strong eye and lip is making sure the base is as light as possible. Try Shiseido’s UV Protective Liquid Foundation SPF 42 ($36), which is perfect for this time of year as it provides protection without a heavy formula. Cover any imperfections that are still visible with concealer but make sure to keep it light so you don’t end up with a mask.
Next, fill in your brows with a pigment, such as Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Volumizing Brow Powder ($25), which will give you a bit of bulk in your brows to mimic Kate’s strong look. Start your smoky eye with a cream shadow, such as Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Stay-On Shadow Paint in Sinister ($24). If you’re nervous about applying such a dark shadow, try building the color until you find a tone you like. We like to use a small shadow brush to create a hatched pattern across the lid with the lines getting more dense as you move across the lid. Then you can blend and you won’t have too much shadow in the inner corner.
Line the waterline and lower lash line with a dark black liner, such as Urban Decay’s 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20) and smudge it well into the lashes. Finish off your lids with a hit of Make Up For Ever’s Glitters in Silver 2 ($15) and coat your lashes with Lancome’s Dramatic Duo Mascara ($35). Lastly, get the full vamp effect with Bite’s Luminous Creme Lipstick in Mulberry ($24).
