Chelsea King Shares Her Metropolitan Nail Art Ideas

Hey everyone…it’s that time again, Sally Hansen is having its #iHeartNailArt contest! I had an awesome time searching for inspiration for this month’s theme “Liquid Mani-A” around my hometown: Long Beach, CA.

I’m always getting inspired by things around me, but I never thought to look around my own city to get inspired. Long Beach is a pretty big city — this photo above is of downtown Long Beach. I loved the city scene, which provided the first inspiration for my ring finger and thumb.

I began with a gradient using Sally Hansen Triple Shine  in Dive In and Vanity Flair. I used a makeup sponge to fade the two colors into each other. Once I let that dry for a couple minutes I used my Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pen in black to draw in the city scene. I wanted this nail to look like a city at sunset, so I added some lights on the buildings using Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Lemon Shark.

After exploring downtown Long Beach I headed a bit closer to home for more inspiration. This brick building above is on 2nd street where there’s tons of fun shopping and restaurants. It’s a popular hangout spot! This particular building stood out to me as I loved how the bricks looked. The colors are amazing!

To paint the brick pattern on my nail, I first started with 2 coats of Triple Shine Red Snapper. Next I used the I Heart Nail Art Striper in white to paint the lines. I start off with a few horizontal stripes, and then randomly add in some vertical ones.

After some more searching through my city, I came across this graffiti-ed window. The colors were so vibrant and further added to my nail art inspiration!

I added the graffiti design over the brick pattern. I first used the nail art brush in the I Heart Nail Art Tool Kit and Triple Shine in Dive In to paint the heart and crown design. Once that dried, I used the I Heart Nail Art  pen in black to really make it pop! Make sure when adding the black pen over the color you let some of the color show to give it a 3D effect.

To finish your nail design, add on some Sally Hansen Triple Shine top coat. This will seal in your look and protect it from all types of water damage.

To go along with the written how-to, here’s a quick video tutorial to show how this was done:
