Beauty Tips and Hacks
Add eye drops to old mascara
Got an old mascara? Just add 2-3 eye drops to bring it back to life.
Hairspray your bobby pins
If your bobby pins are always flailing around, a quick spritz of hairspray will keep them in place.
Need a blot? Head to a public restroom
Those pricey papers you pay $5/pack for are *surprise* practically the same thing as toilet seat covers. If you ever need a blot, rip one up and gently pat away excess face oil. You can even keep the excess scraps in your purse for the next oily emergency!
I recommend taking one on the inside of the pack.
Add a spot of lemon juice to reduce acne scars
Have old or new acne scars? Dab lemon juice onto them once daily to help reduce scarring . Remember to wear SPF after!
Harden nail polish in an ice bath
Nail polish can take up to an hour to harden, and four hours to fully dry. But who has time for that? Dunk your newly painted nails in an ice bath for 1 minute to quickly harden fresh polish and speed up the drying process.
Where to apply perfume
Believe it or not, there are better places on your body to apply perfume. These spots, known as erogenous zones, are warmer than other parts of the body and will help to release more fragrance. These are:
behind your ears
at the bottom of the throat
the inner wrist
behind the knee
inner elbows

You’re applying your concealer wrong
Old school beauty tips told you to “dot” eyeliner around the eye, but this can cause unnatural and uneven coverage. For the best undereye coverage and a youthful, lifting effect, apply under eye concealer in a triangle shape underneath your eye, stemming from the edge of your eye to the end of your nose.
Break in new heels with a hair dryer and socks
Hate the heel break-in process? So do I. Put on a pair of thick socks and aim a blow dryer at the parts that rub for about 15 seconds, while wiggling your toes. Remove the socks and enjoy instantly broken-in shoes!
Beef up your lashes with a clean mascara wand covered in baby powder
Have sparse, thin lashes and no mascara base? Try applying a little baby powder to a clean mascara wand and carefully brush it against your lashes. Voila–INSTANT volume without using falsies. For better adherence, add a light coat of mascara to act as a “sticky” base.
Keep your eyelashes curled all day
To make your eyelash curler more effective, heat it up for 10 seconds before curling. Be careful not to burn yourself!
Monistat chafing gel is practically the same thing as Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Seriously, we're not kidding. When used side by side, these two products work exactly the same to keep oil at bay and to give you a smooth, clean palette for your foundation. Not to mention, Monistat's chafing gel is only a fraction of the price of Smashbox's pricey primer.
Monistat - $5.98 for 1 oz
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer- $36 for 1 oz
Make your own brush cleaner
Skip the expensive brush cleaners and DIY your own with olive oil and dish soap. You'll be obsessed with how clean and soft the bristles feel!
Don't toss your morning tea bag
On a clean face, take your used tea bag and scrub gently, allowing the tea to air dry. Green tea helps reduces redness, decreases damage from pollution and fights signs of aging.
For the perfect eyeliner wing
Struggling with the "flick" at the edge of your eye? The best beauty tip I ever received was that eyeliner should be sisters, not twins. Because each of your eyes is shaped slightly differently, follow the curve of your lower lash line for the most flattering cat eye.
Get a perfect winged eyeliner look with scotch tape
If you don’t trust yourself drawing your eyeliner wing freehand, apply a piece of scotch tape to your eye for the perfect wing. Important: Before putting it on your face, apply it to the back of your hand and remove it several times. This will help make it less sticky so when you apply it to your eye, you won’t damage skin with too-sticky tape.
Clarify your hair with apple cider vinegar
Is your hair feeling heavy? If you’re suffering from product build up, mix ¼ cup apple cider vinegar with 1 cup warm water, use this as a “shampoo” to clean hair, concentrating on the roots. You’ll notice your hair will look soft and bouncy, and less weighed down. You’ll also last longer in between washes.
Applying too much lash glue?
To stop your eyes from becoming a goopy mess, apply a dot of glue to a toothpick or clean brush handle first. This helps you control the amount of lash glue you use.
Use olive oil as eye makeup remover
Even drugstore makeup removers start at $5 a bottle. Use simple olive oil to remove your eye makeup at night–it can even remove waterproof makeup.
Itchy, irritated skin?
Not only is oatmeal good for your diet, it's great for your skin. Placing a handful of oatmeal in your bath can help sooth sunburns and other skin issues (such as those caused by psoriasis and eczema). Once the oatmeal has been in the bath for some time, you can use it as a gentle body scrub as well.
Take a shot of diluted apple cider vinegar to reduce bloating
Take 1 TBSP of apple cider vinegar to reduce bloating and constipation. Be sure to dilute it in a cup of tea or water to avoid eroding your tooth enamel.
Make a two-ingredient cellulite scrub
To temporarily make your legs appear tighter and smoother, make a simple scrub out of ground coffee and olive oil. Rub generously for silky, toned legs.
