Fall smoky eyes are the go-to makeup look this time of year, and while it may take a few extra minutes to complete the sultry eye, layering colors on your lids is still a fairly easy process with the help of the right palette — and some tips from CoverGirl ambassador Sam Fine.
For a beginner’s tutorial, we recommend using an eyeshadow palette like CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadow in Daring Nudes ($4.99). The product name hints at neutrals, but the set contains universally flattering shades ideal for creating the perfect smoky eye. After priming the lids, Fine recommends starting with the deep colors. “Begin by layering the deepest shade of gray over the entire eyelid from lash line to crease and then use the plum shade to soften the edges and introduce a bit of color.” We then add the shimmery white shade to the inner corner of the eyes to open them up and under the brow bone to highlight and accentuate the intensity of the smoky gray and plum. “We’re not done yet,” says Fine. “Apply the shimmery brown shadow to the lower lash line to add warmth and richness.”
Finishing touches? A total must says Fine. “Line the inner rims of the eye with black eyeliner and then apply a few coats of mascara to the top and lower lashes.” Our personal advice for added drama is to line the top lash line with a chocolate brown liner.
