As you’re counting down the final hours of the year, do you also feel as if you’re counting down the inevitable demise of your New Year’s Eve beauty look ? By 9 p.m., your lipstick has rubbed off on your champagne glass; 10 p.m. you’ve left most of your foundation on the dance floor; and come midnight, you’re rocking raccoon eyes as you gaze into the face of the person you plan to kiss.

Before you actually start applying your makeup, there are a few steps you should take to create a smooth canvas for your beauty products to latch on to. Roncal suggests starting with a daily moisturizer and following up with a hydrating face primer. "Dispense a dime-size drop of product to your fingertips and apply it evenly all over your face," advises Roncal.

But your face isn't the only thing you need to prime before you create your makeup masterpiece. Prep your pout by exfoliating it so that your lip color can properly adhere to your lips. Next, apply a primer to further prevent any fading. "Your lips should be dry when you apply the lip primer, so you may want to wait a few seconds after exfoliating," says Roncal. "Just dot the product on your lips and use your finger to pat the product in. Wait a few seconds for the primer to dry before adding your favorite lip color and voila !"

Unless you're a fan of having your eye shadow pull a disappearing act midway through the evening, make sure you sweep a primer across your lids. Roncal is a fan of her Perfect Prep Eye Primer, which she says does as good a job at hydrating the gentle eye area as it does making sure your shadow is on lock.

So, now that you've primed your complexion, what makeup products should you reach for? Opt for a matte lipstick over more traditional, creamy versions. While the latter may provide hydration thanks to oily formulas, that same oil may cause your color to slip off and fade more quickly. A drier, matte finish lipstick , on the other hand, will remain firmly in place.

Choosing the right formula is also key to creating smudge-proof eye makeup. "Using waterproof (aka sweat-proof ) formulations is a necessity," says Roncal. "Opt for a waterproof eyeliner or mascara to keep your eye look lasting all night long." Alternatively, she says you can set your liner with a corresponding shadow.
"Eye Shadows Sticks also tend to last longer than powder ones used without shadow base," says Roncal. "If you must use powder, make sure you start with a base." Bobbi Brown's Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick collection offers 21 color choices — one of which is sure to suit your New Year's Eve makeup look needs.

To set your foundation, Roncal suggests polishing off your look with her Everclear Poreless Face Defender. "It gives a matte finish and keeps your face looking gorgeous all day," says Roncal. And if you need a little touch-up while you're partying the night away, Roncal suggests stashing a mattifying finisher in your purse.

Once you're out the door, Roncal advises that you keep you hands off your face to ensure you don’t undo all of your hard work. "We all have a tendency to rub our eyes when we are tired, but that can result in the removal of eye makeup," she explains.
