Essence, a popular drug store brand in Germany, was also there showcasing the extensive color collection they just launched in the U.S. As a first generation American with a good number of family members still in Europe, I’ve traveled to Munich countless times, but was surprisingly unfamiliar with essence – surprising because their colors are so rich, bold, and vibrant I can’t imagine how anyone could miss them.
After testing out a number of their products and getting a manicure with their polishes – which retail for .99 each – I can’t help but deem the line an affordable version of MAC. Not only do the products provide pigment-rich coverage, but they’re made in Germany and France. Most everything in the line retails for under $5, which puts even Maybelline to shame. With that in mind, here’s a round up of some of the line’s best buys, along with some other notable under $5 finds.
