It seems like forever since we’ve had a red carpet event to fawn over. The 2019 Met Gala is a distant yet joyful memory and the last bit of glitter from this year’s Oscars was cleaned up ages ago. While the various fashion weeks have been providing plenty of fresh beauty ideas, we always love a little award show inspo. That’s why we were super excited for the 2019 Emmy Awards last night. Our craving for glamorous dresses, jewels and beauty looks has finally been satiated.
This year’s ceremony was chock-full of hair and makeup looks to obsess over, from statement ponytails to punchy lip colors. But even with all of the knockout beauty looks, there were some questionable decisions.

The Best (and Worst!) Beauty Looks From the 2019 Emmy Awards
Best: Zendaya
Zendaya served up Ariel vibes with her flowing auburn waves. The actress also made a case for coordinating your eyeshadow to your hair color as opposed to your outfit. Makeup artist Sheika Daley used three shades of Lancôme Color Design True Color Eye Shadow to achieve the effect.

Best: Julia Garner
Julia Garner shined in an eye-catching metallic makeup look. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo created the lip with Chanel's Le Crayon Lèvres Precision Lip Definer in 93 Beige Innocent and the brand's Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour in 204 Metallic Bronze . Her sleek side-parted bun kept the strong makeup look in check.

Best: Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore looked H-O-T. She simply smoldered with her strong eyebrows, sultry eyes and voluminous mane. The inspiration? Cindy Crawford in that classic Pepsi commercial.

Worst: Betty Gilpin
Natural makeup looks can be a great counterpoint to statement gowns. But the wrong shades can wash people out. Betty Gilpin could have benefited from some more color on her features. A touch of her Glow character's 80s aesthetic could have brought some life back to her complexion.

Best: Viola Davis
Viola Davis was positively beaming. Her raisin lipstick complemented her radiant smile. And her bouncy curls were #HairGoals.

Best: Rachel Brosnahan
Rachel Brosnahan seamlessly transitioned to blonde. Her icy blue smoky eye brought out her blue peepers while complementing her hair color and sequined gown. The swishy ponytail was created by celebrity hairstylist Owen Gould.

Best: Emilia Clarke
Emilia Clarke showcased extra-long chocolate brown strands styled by Jenny Cho and a truly flattering neutral lip color.

Best: Gwendoline Christie
Gwendoline Christie made a strong case for wet-look curls at the awards. The burgundy lipstick and shoulder-grazing gigantic earrings showed there's no shame in really going for it.

Worst: Sandra Oh
We applaud Sandra Oh for demonstrating how gorgeous blush draping can be, but the effect was lost against her wispy updo. We're all for tousled texture, but the ends were a bit too out of control.

Best: Sophie Turner
It could be the newlywed glow, but Sophie Turner looked radiant. Her peach-toned makeup was a lesson in how to create a flattering no-makeup makeup look. And she proved why you can't go wrong with a classic half updo.

Best: Brittany Snow
Brittany Snow is officially our new hair and lipstick crush. The way she coordinated her strawberry blond waves with her punchy lip color was divine.

Best: Naomi Watts
Anyone considering growing out their hair will promptly have second thoughts after seeing Naomi Watts' asymmetrical bob with bent ends. It had just the right retro vibe. The slick of red lipstick made the beauty look all the more striking.

Best: Jameela Jamil
Jameela Jamil's signature thick bangs and cat eye were as strong as ever. The kiss of coral lipstick is enough to keep the summer feelings going long into fall.

Worst: Jenny McCarthy
It's hard to say if Jenny McCarthy used too much dry shampoo in her hair or if it had been lightened too much in places. And her tan was too strong.

Best: Busy Philipps
Busy Philipps brought the hair accessories trend to the red carpet with her flower-decorated bun created by Kristin Heitkotter for Biolage. With Busy's rose gold hair, the look was pretty dreamy.

Best: Maisie Williams
Maisie Williams looked like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn with her choppy bob and bold brows. The ear cuff and lip stain jazzed things up even more.

Best: Amy Adams
Amy Adams showed that there are ponytails and then there are statement ponytails. Her twisted tail was fastened with a black ribbon bow.

Best: Regina King
Regina King was one of many ladies providing fresh bob inspo last night. From the soft movement to the caramel highlights, everything was on point.
