We’re so used to seeing Gigi Hadid giving us some serious supermodel vibes on Harper’s Bazaar or stripping off for the likes of Vogue Paris that we almost didn’t recognize her on the cover of WSJ‘s latest — and leave it up to WSJ to deliver us a sublime and original cover. Captured by photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Gigi shows off her versatility in the bewitching black and white cover image, wearing a black Brandon Maxwell outfit, styled by George Cortina.

Amazingly, our forum members shared mixed views toward the cover. “Beautiful! Great background, light and styling,” Oxymore approved from the moment the cover surfaced.
“That lighting is stunning,” echoed madzedre.
Also quick to share his enthusiasm was MON: “My goodness Inez and Vinoodh have done it again. So striking. So powerful. So beautiful. Gigi is in full force here. Gorgeous.”
DutchHomme felt the same way, adding, “One of her best shoots!”
However, the shoot wasn’t to everyone’s taste. “Not bad, it reminds me of [Steven] Meisel. Only a very powerful and fierce model like Coco Rocha can nail this. Gigi doesn’t bring energy to the shots,” complained Aizanara.
“Beautiful photography and concept but Gigi is seriously lacking in energy. I agree that someone like Coco could nail this type of shoot,” said Nepenthes in agreement.
KateTheGreatest wasn’t exactly enthralled either, writing, “When I saw it was shot by I&V, I hoped for a beautiful black and white portrait (I&V are amazing at that). This leaves me cold, I can see why some would like it but this is not my cup of tea.”
“This is probably the most confident Gigi has come off in a shoot, that I can say for certain. It’s not a bad cover or editorial but I agree that a seasoned model would have elevated it far more,” dodencebt chimed in.
