Freja Beha Erichsen Stars on Three Almost-Identical Vogue Italia Covers

For what was once considered the most fashion forward, most provocative and most prestigious fashion magazine on the market, our forums have been pretty underwhelmed by Vogue Italia’s efforts in 2018 (all thanks to editor-in-chief Emanuele Farneti). The magazine started the year with a dreary digital-inspired Fran Summers cover and even Steven Meisel couldn’t save the March issue. Our forums panned Gigi Hadid‘s May cover, Kaia Gerber‘s July cover and Madonna‘s August cover. Now, the title drops three almost-identical Freja Beha Erichsen covers for November 2018, which picture the Danish model (and firm forum favorite) photographed by Ethan James Green “on the move” and doing little else.

Of course, it didn’t long for our forums to debate Vogue Italia’s latest. “OMG, this magazine is trash now,” slammed caioherrero.

“It used to take some time before a magazine would get fixed in its ways, with each editor’s formula slowly calcifying into basic repetition – but this edition seems to have been rigidly unimaginative from the start. Lifeless,” voiced tigerrouge.

“Even Freja can’t save this. What has this magazine turned into?” bluestar asked.

“What even is the concept here? Maybe Farneti should stop trying so hard to have a ‘theme’ or ‘concept’ each month and actually focus on producing good pictures…” sixtdaily suggested.

GivenchyHomme wasn’t exactly into it, either. “It looks old. Everything about it is outdated. The hair, the makeup, the set, and worst of all the styling. We’ve reached the dark period of this magazine. It’s going to need a complete rebirth if it’s going survive the next 5-10 years,” he wrote.

“The problem with Vogue Italia is that… with each issue, one can’t help but imagine what the results would have been if the same shoot concept, casting, styling and production had been handled by Meisel,” dior_couture1245 said.

“This magazine is now a mockery of what it once was,” MON added.

Here’s hoping Italian Vogue‘s December issue holds a lot more promise. Sound off on the current covers and join the conversation here.
