Anna Wintour has received nothing but praise on our forums since the start of 2020. She kick-started the new decade with a series of Vogue Values covers, gave us a model extravaganza for April, had Gal Gadot go glam for May and showed other publications just how it’s done with a symbolic cover in response to the global health crisis. Now Wintour gives the cover to none other than Simone Biles for August 2020. Shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, the Olympic gold medalist sports a Bottega Veneta bodysuit on the newsstand cover (below) and shows off her impressive gymnastic skills decked out in Christian Dior for the digital alternative (after the jump).
Our forum members were thrilled. “Finally! For a second I thought Serena Williams was the only athlete that mattered. I love this. Very rich and victorious,” applauded MON.
“A correct cover given current circumstances. It feels glorious and empowering,” shared MDNA.
“The first cover looks glorious and powerful. Gotta give it to Annie, she nails her Vogue covers!” cheered aracic.

Marc10 couldn’t agree more: “Fantastic cover for a fantastic young woman. Annie is still the best for these type of subject matter cover shoots.”
“The first cover is beautiful, extremely powerful in its simplicity with the strong pose from Simone and the use of the Bottega Veneta bodysuit. It’s a glorious image for a Vogue cover, certainly very memorable and arresting,” admired vogue28.
“Very powerful cover! Simone exudes confidence and I love that! Even if I would have loved to have a pure fashion cover, the climate right now is too heavy for U.S. Vogue to just do that. It’s a very appropriate cover!” voiced Lola701.
SLFC felt the same way. “I wish it had fashion in it, but nonetheless a very cool cover. I’m pretty sure this is the first cover I’ve seen that actually shows power — like the cover matches the statement.”
