Lydia Slater appears to be hearing our pleas for models to grace the covers of our favorite fashion glossies. After all, everyone from Natalia Vodianova to Constance Jablonski to Lucan Gillespie to Molly Constable and Seynabou Cissé popped up on the cover of British Harper’s Bazaar within the last year. Now the publication kicks off 2022 with Karen Elson returning to the title five years after her last appearance captured on location in the English countryside by Erik Madigan Heck. In the vivid newsstand cover (below), stylist Leith Clark dressed the Brit beauty in a floral Prada Spring 2022 lace look. While for the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump), Karen rocks Etro.
Unfortunately, the end result feels like a missed opportunity in the eyes of our forum members. “I want to like this, I like the red for February and the background, but I hate the makeup and her expression so much and just can’t see past it,” critiqued KINGofVERSAILLES.
“All I can see are two giant downward facing triangles of blush…” Melancholybaby pointed out.
“I just developed coulrophobia out of this,” declared Horizontina.

“Feels like Alice went down the wrong hole. I usually love Karen, but with such bad photography, styling and makeup, one can’t do miracles. Everything could’ve worked marvelously, but it didn’t,” added WAVES.
“It’s always great to see Karen, but the cover isn’t great — mostly because of the makeup,” echoed LastNight.
MON wasn’t exactly enthralled: “Had the potential of being a stellar cover. If not for that hideous makeup.”
“I will always have admiration for a British fashion publication championing a British fashion model like Karen Elson, but I am officially done with Erik Madigan Heck on autopilot and his oversaturated coloring,” voiced vogue28.
