Jil Sander has leant its name, though surely not its eye, to a new LG smart phone. The phone runs Windows software, and it’s the Korean technology company’s second partnership with a luxury design house (LG previously released a phone with Prada). Considering Apple’s success, it’s a smart move for other tech brands to get into the design game, but I’m thinking that this is a misstep for Jil Sander. The mobile device looks like an unsophisticated IPhone rip-off, and Jil Sander’s logo only adds insult to injury. This is a fine phone to carry, but a bad device to brand. To fashion labels: stick to making IPhone and IPad cases, and stay out of the hardware game.
