“When you are excited about something, you don’t have to think about your energy. It is natural and comes from adrenaline. It is important that I don’t look at this as like an illness. I am not sick. I am the same woman and I have the same passions.”
Okay, but resting to prepare for a major life transition is not exactly the same as treating your pregnancy like an illness or giving up on your passions. I’m of two minds here: on one hand, I really do admire Beyonce for her unwillingness to define herself solely by her role as a mother-to-be. But on the other hand, what’s so bad about vacations?! Dear Beyonce, as a national celebrity, it’s your civic duty to uphold standards of leisure the rest of us can strive toward. What if I someday get pregnant and my employer refuses to grant me maternity leave, citing you as an example? It’s up to you, Beyonce, to lead the fight for vacations for all.
