Fashion Takes Action at the Green Living Show

Each year FTA hosts an “Emerging Designers Boutique” at the Green Living Show — April 12-14 — where more than twenty designers are featured. This year they include the winner of Canada’s first eco fashion award Nicole Bridger, and Canadian native, now Brooklyn-based designer Tara St. James of Study-NY and the Uniform Project.

Without a doubt, consumers are giving more thought to how they can have a lighter footprint — TOMS clad or otherwise — whether that means driving less, using energy efficient appliances, eating locally or wearing sustainably made clothing. The Green Living Show is Canada’s largest green consumer show that offers both an opportunity to raise awareness through live demonstrations and panel discussions, as well as a convenient one-stop shop for the eco-conscious. Because you know, being aware of global impacts isn’t all doom and gloom.

Some of the designers will be featured on the runway in either the “Little Black Dress” show held Friday April 12 at 7:00 p.m., or in the Capsule Show on Saturday April 13 at 5:30 p.m. The shows will be held on the main stage, along with a panel discussion by a number of sustainable fashion experts from Canada and the U.S. including FTA’s own Kelly Drennan. Admission is $16, but gets waived if you bring in old electronics.

If you can’t make it to the event then you can check out the FTA’s pioneering showroom in Toronto’s Distillery District or else some of the designs are also available for purchase on the FTA’s newly-launched boutique, shopecofashion.ca. My favourite label is the Aime collection that focuses on effortless modern classics with a twist and I couldn’t resist showing off this “Emma Dress” on the right!
