This year, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition is publishing its 50th anniversary issue. To celebrate half a century of half-naked ladies, the publication has reportedly photographed Kate Upton in zero gravity.
The model was catapulted to fame after she was selected for the SI Swimsuit Issue cover in 2012 (she appeared on the cover a second time, last year).
Although she was the target of plenty of heated criticism (the Victoria’s Secret casting director famously said Upton had “the kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy”), Upton quickly moved from men’s magazines to general interest and fashion publications, landing the covers of several editions of Vogue, including US, UK, Italia and Brazil.
Sources told Page Six that “Upton was shot in a zero-gravity chamber in a silver swimsuit with weightless ample bosom and big hair that made her ‘look like something out of Barbarella.’”
The publication suggests that the idea might have originated on the Jimmy Fallon show last year, following the release of the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The late night host joked that Upton should be photographed in space. ““Think about this,” he said, “there’s no gravity.”
“Next year,” Upton told him.

Page Six reports that the 50th anniversary issue will also include legendary cover stars such as Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Carol Alt and Bar Refaeli.
