Good Monday! And what a great start to the week this is! The star-spangled Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards held their eagerly anticipated gala ceremony at the Fairmount Royal York, where they honoured the best and brightest this country has to offer. But if you weren’t lucky enough to be able to schmooze with fashion’s finest at the inaugural event, here you can check out the winner’s roll call.
Twin designers Dean and Dan Caten earned a double victory (which only makes sense, right?). They were recognized with an award for outstanding achievement and another for the CAFA for international Canadian designer of the year, which honours a recipient that has achieved success abroad and brought attention to Canadian talent on the world stage.
Toronto’s Jeremy Laing was named womenswear designer of the year, while Calgary native Travis Taddeo, received the menswear designer of the year award. Ottawa-born twins Byron and Dexter Peart took home accessory designer of the year honours for their brand WANT les essentiels de vie, which features a classic collection of Italian leather bags and accessories.
BC-native Coco Rocha was in attendance at the event, which gave her the opportunity to collect her award for the CAFA for model of the year in person. You go Coco! Joe “Fresh” Mimran won the Canadian Style Award, which recognizes a recipient who embodies the spirit of the country and serves as an unofficial ambassador for homegrown fashion and culture. The rest of the winners are as follows:
- Image Maker Award: Photographer Chris Nicholls
- Stylist of the Year: George Antonopoulos
- Emerging Talent Award: Sarah Stevenson
- Special Tribute Vanguard Award: Jeanne Beker
What do you think of the winner’s list? Did all your favorites score a slice of the inaugural pie?
