Brown has been announced as part of the cast of a new Australian outback mystery drama Strangerland, in which she will play one of the two teenage daughters of Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes. The plot follows the disappearance of the daughters into the Australian wilderness, and the pressure this unsurprisingly puts on their parents relationship as they are forced to confront the truth (or the unsolved mystery, depending on how things pan out). Hugo Weaving will play the policeman leading the investigation.
It’s a solid first film for the model, who was discovered by talent agency Atelier three years ago when she was signed by Chic Model Management. “Maddison is a very special and unique young actress,” agent Clementine Crawford told the Daily Telegraph. “She has such incredible instincts and raw, natural talent.” We have previously seen this evidenced in lip-synched Kimye covers.
Other Australian models to have segued into acting include current Vogue Australia cover girl Abbey Lee Kershaw, who has a role in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, and new mum Gemma Ward, who had quietly acclaimed roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Black Balloon.
Strangerland is the feature debut of Australian director Kim Farrant. Farrant has previously worked on a TV series called Rush and the 2007 documentary Naked on the Inside. Production is already underway in Sydney this week.
