We’re Obsessed With Eco-Friendly Activewear Brand Tikita

I’m currently obsessed with Canadian eco-friendly activewear brand Tikita. Its slinky, stretchy sports pieces capture the essence of femininity and also a ‘strong girl’ mentality, with products that offer the latest technology and innovative fabrics. The versatile apparel comes with bold playfulness and refined sportiness. And now the brand has released its Spring/Summer 2014 lookbook.

Some of the pieces have yet to go on sale (although June is the target), while others are already up for grabs on the website, but what Tikita has created this season demands attention. A purple marl Juliette Jacket makes for the ideal post-yoga cover-up (as does the white eyelet Missy jacket), a purple backless long-sleeve is both eye-catching and practical, while the gloriously psychedelic legging prints offer some much needed rest bite from the usual uniform of black bottoms.

Best of all, Tikita is a wholly-owned Canadian company, founded in the Toronto Beaches by an astute mom who wanted to provide a positive environment that empowers active women through encouragement, growth and confidence. The first Beaches store opened in 2009, but since then Tikita has also opened a trendy flagship location on Queen West.

Now here’s the other thing that makes the brand stand out: While Tikita does outsource its production abroad, unlike many apparel companies, the company owns and manages its own production facility abroad. This means that their production house is staffed with Titika employees, which most importantly allows them to provide top of the line benefits and ethical working conditions for staff.

I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel a whole lot better when I’m breaking a sweat in my air conditioned gym class.
