The nominees for the Scottish Fashion Awards have been announced with the great and good of the Celtic country’s fashion industry in the running for the most covetable prizes in Scottish fashion, celebrating everyone from fashion designers and models to retailers and graduates.
Now in its ninth year, the black tie award ceremony serves as a reminder just how much talent comes from Scotland.

There are 11 award categories ranging from Scottish Accessory Designer of the Year to Scottish Exporter. International designers also get a look, however, as long as they have been influenced/inspired by Scotland or source textiles from the country, so the likes of Simone Rocha, Vivienne Westwood and Marc by Marc Jacobs are among the nominees. The Luxury Retailer of the Year honor will give praise to the international brands operating in Scotland and will see Burberry, Harvey Nichols and Louis Vuitton battling it out among others.
The most exciting awards are undoubtedly the model and designer categories. Christopher Kane alongside his counterparts Holly Fulton and Jonathan Saunders are nominated in the latter. Although seeing as Kane won it last year, it may be nice to see one of the others take the award home.
Nominations in the model category include Mary Charteris, who also won last year, and Jean Campbell, who has been a rising star this year with Burberry campaigns and editorial shoots a plenty.
“2014 is a hugely important year for Scotland from a political, cultural and sporting perspective so it’s important that we use whatever means to shine the spotlight on our incredible wealth of fashion talent emanating from Scotland and Britain,” SFA founder Tessa Hartmann told Vogue UK. “The fashion sector is often overlooked and underestimated in the Scottish business community and this definitive list highlights that that view needs to change. Our job is to highlight them to global audiences — regardless of borders.”
The awards will take place in September and they have saved the special awards, including Hall of Fame and Fashion Icon, to be announced at the event.
