“Elegant” and “Iggy Azalea” are two terms rarely used in the same sentence. The Australian small-town girl turned rapper is usually parading some kind of over-the-top colourful ensemble topped off with bling that is anything but graceful, tasteful and refined. But for the 2014 ESPY Awards at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, we saw the 24-year-old “Fancy” singer in a different light.
Stepping onto the red carpet in a black one-shoulder gown from Elie Saab, Iggy embodied Hollywood glamour that we could have never imagined would suit her. But we’re biting our tongues over here, because the blonde musician looked every bit the part for her basketballer boyfriend Nick Young’s big night.
Once the long black number was teamed with nude pointed heels, Jennifer Fisher jewels, a swept back quiff hairdo and minimal makeup, the elegant and sophisticated look was well and truly underway. Her beau Nick helped set the tone by donning a monochromatic suit and sparkly footwear, making us think the high-profile pair planned ahead for this one.
