Nicole Richie is obviously the biggest drawcard for the event, nabbing the ambassador role for next month’s Golden Slipper Carnival, but she will be joined by some home-grown favourites for the season. The lineup includes The X Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte, model Erika Heynatz, animal doctor Josie Gollan, jockey Tommy Berry, horse trainer Edwards Cummings, TV personality James Tobin and sports commentator Peter Sterling.

Natalie, who is less than a week from launching her own children’s fashion line called Chi Khi, wore a black-and-white By Johnny midi dress with a floppy black-felt hat. “I think you’ve got to be really careful this season especially with Autumn,” she told ATC, suggesting closed-toe shoes, trading up straw for felt, and longer hemlines for the colder season.

As the ambassador for Cellarbrations Ladies Day, Erika understands what us gals love about the races. Wearing a vivid-yellow Alex Perry number with a black Nerida Winter fascinator, Erika told ATC, “For women it’s about getting a beautiful dress, going to see a milliner, choosing the accessories that go with it, or the man handbag, which is also another great accessory.”
Autumn Racing will go from Saturday, February 8, right through to April 18. Head to Australian Turf Club’s website for more details.
