To appreciate a prestigious fashion house, it’s important to examine the person who had the vision. Christian Dior was a French couturier who conceived the French luxury goods company Dior. The House of Christian Dior was founded in December 1946 on Avenue Montaigne in Paris.
Can you believe that almost 69 years later, the same famous Dior boutique still stands at that same address? In February 1947, the debut collection was presented featuring 90 different looks. Dior’s haute couture signature is very feminine when it comes to creating shapes and silhouettes like the calf-length, full skirt or the cinched-waist look. One iconic design for the brand is the flare out from the waist on his dresses. It’s romanticism and extravagance in its purest form.
In 1948, Dior set out for New York and was one of the first to open a ready-to-wear house and only a year later, Dior became the first couturier to have licensed production of his designs. The rest, as we know, is history. Today, the brand is still one of the most luxurious labels retailing and designing ready-to-wear, leather goods, fashion accessories, jewellery, fragrance, makeup and skincare. Currently, there are 210 Dior retail locations around the world.
When you think Dior, luxury, innovation and timeless elegance are some words that come to mind and who can deny any of it with a brand that has remained true and stood the test of time. We’re still keeping our fingers crossed, however, for a store coming soon to Toronto on Bloor Street West.
