While her acting career is booming, fashion is still a huge part of her life. “It’s always what I thought I would do,” she stated in an interview with Vogue. “I went into clothing and textiles in college and moved here with [shoe designer] Brian Atwood. I was going to finish at FIT and he made me do stand-up on the second night.”

It looks like the star can juggle both fashion and comedy these days. According to the article, the goal behind McCarthy’s new line is to bring runway styles to women who don’t fit regular sample sizes. The line will range from size 4 to size 28 and will cater to all body types. “It goes beyond the age-old myth that only all-black looks can be slimming, with an adventurous, and equally flattering use of color-blocking.” Her styles will also satisfy “real-world needs.” Think pockets in dresses. “I put pockets in everything! I want pockets inside my pockets,” she said.

McCarthy’s line will also include denim. She admits that she once went 15 years without owning a single pair of jeans. “I was completely against it,” she said. “I was in a vintage phase, shockingly, and I just didn’t get it.” But times have changed and expect to be wowed by her denim designs. “One of the best parts of a woman’s body is that curve and I go a little bit higher on all of my things to show off the best part of the hourglass.” Now that’s something to get excited over, as it can often be difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans.
McCarthy’s collection is priced at $150 and under, which is refreshing to hear. It’s not everyday you can score runway-worthy clothing at affordable prices. McCarthy will appear on HSN on August 13 to discuss her fashion label and Melissa McCarthy Seven7 will officially launch September 1.
